PROPOSAL FOR APPLYING THE SPONGE CITY MODEL IN URBAN RAINWATER DRAINAGE ADAPTABLE TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN LY VAN LAM WARD, CA MAU PROVINCE
ABSTRACT
Using a specific example on proposing a sponge city model in Ly Van Lam ward, Ca Mau province, the presentation describing the process of selecting technical essential solutions – “green” drainage infrastructure of the sponge city and integrating them into urban planning, different land use functional groups, to reduce impermeable surface areas (corrugated iron roofs, asphalt, concrete, etc.) in the urban area, creating conditions for retention, infiltration, and regulation of rainwater to help reduce peak flows, reduce the flow coefficient when calculating “grey” drainage infrastructure. This helps reduce investment and operating maintenance costs, while creating conditions for regulating and reusing rainwater for purposes that do not require high water quality.
The presentation also comparing with traditional rainwater drainage and flood prevention options to highlight the economic, environmental and social benefits of sponge city model
